Reading at Home

There may be many distractions, but children should be encouraged to read at home regularly.

Talk Topic

As part of a new initiative into writing, we are encouraging all children to develop their language skills, particularly their vocabulary. To do this, we are introducing a ‘talk topic’ each week. We will be discussing the topic at school and would like children to also do this at home during the weekend. Each week the topic will change and will be added to the end of the newsletter. Please try to encourage your child to speak in sentences and use powerful words in descriptions.


Written Work

When approaching a piece of written work children are encouraged to plan carefully. In the example below, Year 3 and 4 children were given the task of producing an advertisement for the school. They had to consider not only the basic information they wanted to include, but the target audience and appropriate persuasive language needed, as well as layout and presentation.
